An email has been received requesting that the Open winner qualify for C of C. This will be debated at the AGM in March.

I'm sending in a letter asking for it to remain the same. Otherwise I'd have tried harder for the Open ;D
Seriously... This has been discussed before. It went to the Open winner and Singles winner didn't it Then it was changed back (do you have the minutes?)?. The problem with deciding this at AGM is the people voting on it have no interest in it.
Why don't you decide this at one of your committee meetings? It's what you are there for. what else do you do in those meetings?

Firstly, you don't have to send in a letter asking for it to stay the same. That is the default position should this idea be rejected. Turn up at the AGM and voice your opinion. I will have the minutes somewhere and can dig them out if you really want me to. However, I don't see why this can't be debated again. I don't think it was ever changed, just discussed. As Craig says this will be for the future. If people are interested in this decision then they should turn up to the AGM and vote. The committee are there to run the league on behalf of the members. The members decide the rules. We normally spend committee meetings Norris bashing.

I'm not sure about that, Steve clearly wears the pants in that relationship

The following suggestion has been mentioned to me. Let's see what response this gets.
A Men's Singles plate competition.
This may encourage attendance at the Singles. Previously it has been mentioned that players don't turn up when they see they have drawn such and such.
If we decide to charge extra in the Singles to guarantee an in town venue then this could fund the competition trophies.
It could be played on the same night as the 2nd round of the Men's Singles, with the semis and final at CSC in Finals week.

So can I pay extra to be drawn at Longstanton, Hardwick or Caldecote?
Why should those that live in cambridge be offered the opportunity to play near where they live, when those that live outside can't?

You do that by not paying the additional £££... Of course as the options would be inside or outside, you could get Sawston, for example.

Not keen on the idea of paying to influence the draw, whatever the options, tbh.

Why don't we split the league into 4-5 geographical zones, get each player to state which zone they live in on the entry form... and then have X number of venues in each zone dependent on the number of players...
If anyone forgets to input their "zone" then they will just be randomly put in somewhere.
There is no easy way to cheat as it is relatively well know whereabouts the top players life and I doubt anyone would move house to exploit an easier draw in the Sawston area!

You see I think my idea (above) involves an achievably small amount of effort from the comp sec, tackles the distance issue (which appears to be the biggest problem even ahead of table quality), is very difficult to use in a way which causes an advantage or disadvantage to individual players and is a genuinely serious suggestion rather than a random bit of trolling from Norris. Now, I shall wait for everyone to burn it to the ground for bringing shame on the glorious CAPL singles competitions.

Leave it as it is, its only the one round. Then any players not turning up pay £2 extra to enter the following season

Why don't we raise the entry fee to £20 per player and then the winner gets a statue made in their likeness in the CSC car park? Within a few years, we'd have a parking issue though... why do all the best ideas have such critical drawbacks?
