I dont think phil has quit, he has just had a lot of other commitments. Yes the county could be the top side (as we proved last year) but something needs to change! If you are up for being skipper good luck to you mate, perhaps we should asses it towards the end of the season!

Everyone has a chance to play county, trials are usually 2nd/3rd week in January, all you have to do is quailify. To do this you usually need to win 5 or 6 matches out of 7 or 8.

I could of played in "B" team - At the trials I won 3 out of 4 last year, and was playing really well, but had to leave coz I didn't want to let Shaun down (men's doubles was the same night)!
So I left about 8pm, as the end was no-where in sight!!!

Orrible. I admire your sentiments. I also worry about what the team will look like next season, with regards to personnel. You raise some valid points and it is good see a positive response from some of the regulars on this forum. However, I am curious about this part of your post... " The Ely grasp on the "B" team has to stop also, so I hear! I hate the If your face don't fit B*llox! " Perhaps you could expand upon this point. What is it that " you hear" ?

I could have played 'A' team. I hadn't lost a frame and was on course for 100%, but then at 0-0 I had to leave because I hadn't entered. It would have been beautiful.

Well then, I'd better make sure I turn up and win. i sure hope ray Charles doesn't show up again - that was really embarrassing

i agree with you ian on some points with players dropping out that pisses me off big time! but i dont agree with the statment about elys hold on the b team. chuck does a good job where there are not many volenteers and its a thankless job, he drops all players including ely players if they need to be and other times if they dont i know what influences him is when players turn up play their frame and piss off whilst not supporting their fellow team mates. if you would like to run the team you are most welcome! But at the last county match where were you when i was dropped in the deep end when phil could not make it? thank you stu mcpherson and nikki bayes for that. Dale

when the trials were held cambridge had around 6-8 players left in the trials but they decided to leave in favour of doubles if they had stayed i know through my knowledge of the players concerned they would of qualified so how can ely moaned at when players qualify. i want all players to stand up and be counted at next years trials and get a strong team and most important a team that bonds as a team not snide remarks from behind in a corner, if you have a problem speak up or shut up! if anybody wishes to be captain or county team manager contact Ron or myself here or on county e-mail they will be most welcome and ill stand down and play in a team where i am required either A or B or not at all. players are retained on the performances of the last county season not at the trials the year before! All you can go on is black and white if you dont then you get clickky! Matt is a alround nice guy who i would love to be there on county days but where do you draw the line retain 28 players in a squad and trial in 2 this year with all these players deserting we could be looking for possibly 15-20 players?

Ian, the system isn't transparent enough. Some people get in without going to the trials (e.g. Neil Robertson, who is obviously good enough, but nonetheless didn't qualify). Other people like Matt and Dom qualified but they only get a few games for county, which means they quickly become disinterested. Also, as well as qualifying through the trials, it should be possible to qualify through super league rankings as well, Ed
