because my opponent goes on holiday and forgets that he has to play our match. I contacted him 5 days prior to the end of the month but because its not 10 days I get deducted two points. Opponent takes responsibility for the match not being played however the organisers decide they will just deduct 2 points and not even contact me about it (courtesy?).
Rules are rules however sometimes surely common sense can be used? After all isn't that what the league (seperate entity I know) usually would do?

Sounds like a fair deduction of points to me but agree a courtesy text message at least would have been polite.

I presume you gave the same courtesy of contacting the organisers to question the decision before posting this on here?

You presume correctly. I don't see why this rule cannot be employed flexibly, how was I supposed to know that he was going on holiday and how is it my fault that he didn't even realise he had to play two fixtures in the month?

What did they say when you asked about it? 5 days before the end of the month isn't long to arrange and play a fixture. I imagine the penalty is there to ensure people organise their matches with a bit more notice.

Darren referered to the rule and said my divisional sec is aware of the situation however I have had no follow up to this apart from the deduction of the points. I can appreciate the need for such a rule but personally I feel this is an exceptional case given my opponent has taken reponsibility for the situation in its entirety. One thing I have learnt is not to give 5 days notice in future!

how was I supposed to know that he was going on holiday...? You could have called him at the beginning of the month and asked (Agreed he probably should have called you)

This is quite an interesting thread. I have played 4 matches and had to make first contact on every occasion, one of which, the individual was out of the country until the 27th of the month! It seems easy enough, 2 fixtures a month, one home, the other away. Home player is required to make contact with the opponent in the first week of the month, otherwise they take full responsibility for fixture not being completed. This has nothing to do with not being able to agree a fixture. Would this be enough incentive?
