Mixed Doubles Draw - 24th July 2011

Please see below for the draw for the Mixed Doubles:

Games are to take place on Sunday July 24th with the winner to text me directly (see www.cambridgeareapoolleague.co.uk website in contact section). Stewards are in bold and are to be the main point of contact with me in the event of any issues. Matches will be best of 3 until 4 teams remain, in which case the venue semi and final will be best of 5.

Note for Stewards: Please be responsible for the draw on the night and for noting down all scores for matches played. If you are not going to be able to make it to the venue please let me know asap. Remember that a timer should be used for all games, it is the responsibility of all entrants at the venue to assist with that when not playing. Any queries regarding matches where a stopwatch hasn't been used will be ignored. If any entrants are not there for the alloted start time, and haven't called ahead first, please do the draw without them. Discretion advised, of course.

The competition will start at 8pm with participants aiming to arrive between 7.30pm and 7.45pm to allow the steward to perform the draw at 8pm for a prompt start.

How many pairs turned up at the actual venue, just out of interest?

From my experiance there is confusion over these venues. Perhaps they can put the post code in brackets next to it from now on?

Fulbourn SSC used to be known as Fulbourn Hospital, which made it clear they were different. However, they requested a change, which they are entitled to do so.
It can be quite confusing. Our A team has both of these venues in division 2 and nearly went to the wrong one earlier in the season.
Not sure exactly what the answer is. Maybe someone from one of those venues can comment?

On a bit of a side note, we did think about contacting the other teams but didn't have any contact numbers for them (and presumably they didn't have ours either). Perhaps it'd be an idea to give out at least the stewards' phone numbers, so you have someone to contact if you are going to be late (or so the stewards can be found if their venue-finding skills are dodgy)?

They could always contact the comp. sec?
Also, stewards are generally players who have been shown to be responsible. Either committee members, captains or other well known players. As such, their details are generally available on the website or they will be known, via the committee.
The rules also state, that should the stewards not turn up then it is the responsibility of all other players to contact the comp. sec.
If this had been done, then maybe this would not have arose.

Can't argue with that - had I looked at the proper CAPL pages we'd have been fine. Instead I checked this page then googled 'fulbourn sports and social club', and that all points to the institute. The institute itself is signposted as the sports and social club, and says so above the door iirc so we never really thought we'd gone wrong.

We're happy enough to write it off and an unfortunate mistake tbh - was a good night. Not complaining at all.

I guess a link to the maps/contacts page alongside the competition draws might be helpful though. Otherwise it's a pretty easy mistake to make just to google it like we did.

Hi one of my team mates played in the hardwick mixed doubles event. He spoke to me last night and mentioned he lost and wasn't to sure of the rules, his main complaint was that one of the teams were offering advice to each other even when down on the shot including telling them to aim a bit left or right, is this allowed in the mixed doubles. I did tell him its a bit late to worry about it now and that in the future he should have raised this at the time but i told him i would check it out for him as I have never played in the mixed doubles.

You can consult up until the player commences their visit. The only exception to this is that they may also consult after the break.

Yep i was telling her where to hit the ball, up until just before she struck the cue ball.

You are allowed to talk all you want up to when the cue ball is struck.
