Hi all,
On Sunday 8th July, we celebrated the continuing success of the 2012 Cambridgeshire County Pool season with a home match against last season's national finalists, Suffolk.
Many balls were potted, some were missed but a plethora of flicks and nudges along the way led to a mixed bag of results for Cambs.
Men's A
The Men's A Team won 24-20 for their fifth win this season after six matches; this keeps the pressure on Essex and positions the A team nicely for a strong push towards the end of the season.
Cambs began strongly, winning the first two sets and taking a 13-9 lead into the half way point. We were bolstered by the return of Phil Harrison and he won all 4 of his frames on the day (making him a strong contender for man of the match).
Other notable performances were from Jordan Lemmon, Joff Middleton and Paul Stelmaszuk all adding 3 frames to the wins column. Joff could have had 4 from 4 but was unsighted at the critical moment while on a tricky black.
"Mr. Money" Craig Benstock won one from two in the first half, but then had to sit out the second half, (presumably because someone told him there was no cash prize), and Jamie Clements came in to win 2 from 2 to help us get over the line.
Paul Stelmaszuk continues his march towards England trials, remaining on a 75% win record after 6 matches. Come on Paul!!
Men's B
The Men's B Team lost 21-23 last Sunday. The team started well by winning the first session 7-4, however a narrow loss in session two 5-6 and then a 4-7 loss in the 3rd made it an uphill struggle. They recovered to 20-21 however Suffolk were able to get over the line with 2 of the last 3 including a frame from FIZ's Stacey Tite (booooo!)
On the day, "Mr. Turner" Ben Turner won 4 from 4 to spearhead the Cambs B effort. George Brown, Jamie Jamieson and Andy Mear all donated three wins to the cause however this wasn't enough to stop a tough Suffolk B team.
Youth
The youth team smashed up Suffolk Youth in a dominant 23-21 victory. Cambs were able to field 12 youth players as well which is a sign of a promising 2nd half of the season ahead.
Dan Coggin won 4 out of 4 and six other Cambs players won 3 each.
In the EPA Region 4 rankings, Dom Cooney is currently sitting in 2nd place with 21 wins from 24 frames and Ashley Scarr is in 4th place with 18 wins. Come on Cambs!!
There is no match in August, but we will be back in the month after for an away match to Norfolk on September 9th.
