Hi all,
Another glorious county Sunday was had today, this time at the Rat Pack Pool Club in Hertfordshire.
Men's A
The Men's A Team won 26-18 away to Herts continuing their 100% record for the season, winning all three of their opening matches.
Paul Stelmaszuk has continued his rampant form for Cambridgeshire winning all 4 of his frames today bringing his season's total to 10 won from 12. Dale Parson and Craig Benstock both won 3 out of 4, along with man of the match, Jordan Lemmon in his first county A match; It would have been 4 out of 4, if his third opponent hadn't made a really jammy first-visit clearance!
Massive thanks to Shaun Leader, Tim Redman and Ian Norris who stepped up to the A team to win 50% on the day, after a few unavoidable last minute drop-outs on the morning of the match.
Men's B
The Men's B Team also won 26-18 and have firmly kickstarted their season as a result. This win takes them to 4 points out of a possible 9, however with 7 matches left it is still all to play for with two matches left against Essex B (who are currently top).
Luke Bennett won all 4 of his frames in a very strong performance form the B team; with Iain Aldous, Jason Clark, Jamie Jamieson, Darren Clarke and Nigel White all adding 3 frames to wins column for Cambs.
Worth noting in the B team was that Andy Mear having been dropped for the first two frames of the match, showed the right attitude, got behind the team, and then when he came in for the 2nd half, won both his frames with big pressure pots in each.
This season we have a lot of strength and depth in the B squad and we are fortunate to have had more than 11 players in the B each month; everyone in the squad will have their part to play over the season and with the right attitude and team spirit I can see a great season ahead for the B now that they have had time to gel!!
Youth
Unfortunately, the youth team only had 9 players this month and started 8-0 down as a result, with the end result being a 28-16 defeat. The youth squad has been slowly growing however, and it looks that as the season progresses they will have more players and hopefully can field a full 11 for most of the remaining matches.
Ashley Scarr and Dom Cooney won all 4 of their frames in the defeat with Luke Gilbert winning 3 out of 4. The Youth have only played 2 matches so far this season, however Dom is on 100% winning 8 from 8 and Ashley is on 7 out of 8, keeping both in the running for a potential England trial come the end of the season.
If anyone reading this is aware of a youth player (18 or under) playing in your league who would be interested in joining the Cambs youth team then please get in touch; it has been hard for the team to overcome an automatic deficit by being short players, but I can see there is a lot of talent in the team that we do have, so having a full 11 is the first step to getting a few wins under their belt.
Ladies
As usual, if anyone from the Ladies' team would like to let us know how they got on, then please do so.
Next Match: Away to Beds (20th May)
While Cambs A are riding high at the top of the table on 3 wins from 3, and Cambs B have sprung into form this month, Bedfordshire have proven themselves to be tricky customers in recent seasons.
Let's build on the momentum we now have and trim them up!!
Come on Cambs!!!
