yeah it's a good side if we all play to our potential. Thanks for the support. It is definately a side that is capable of winning the whole thing. Every player named has given full support. Lets hope it works out well.

Spoke to joe, he is fine but can only do 50% or so. We have 14/15 players so should be ok!

what is the swiss format?

|
Post by orrible on Jan 5, 2007 16:22:25 GMT
win one, you play person who wins one win 2, you play person who won 2 and so on
roughly you have to win 7/8 before you lose (i think) 3 matches.

It's a good job this team can field a team a few players short and still win matches. Look forward to playing you ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

ENGLAND TEAM TRIALS Trials Format Proposed format passed by the E.P.A. National Committee.
Swiss system with 64 players.
No player will play a player from their own region in the first round.
Any spaces due to players not turning up will be classed as bye's during the first three rounds and will be randomly drawn to ensure that 3 different players are given a bye during the first 3 rounds for each place not filled.
All matches will be best of 5 frames.
All players will play against opponents who have the same record for the first six rounds.
After completing six rounds, the situation will be as follows; 1 player will have qualified on six wins, no losses. 6 players will have 5 wins and 1 loss 15 players will have 4 wins and 2 losses
As there are now an uneven number of players, it is proposed to play the remaining rounds as follows;
The 6 players with a 5-1 record will play against each other, with the three winning players qualifying for the England team.
The 15 players with a 4-2 record will be split into 5 groups of three and will play a round robin format to obtain a winner from each group. (A player winning both matches will go through. In the event of a three-way tie frames against will be used to decide the winner. If there is still a tie, matches will be reduced to best of three and replayed).
The 3 players with a 5-2 record, plus the 5 winners from the round robin play-off will then be drawn to play one final match to decide the final four places (where possible against a player they have not previously played).
This system will provide 8 qualifiers for each of the England teams.

FAQs ( Frequently Asked Questions )
Category: Main >> The Swiss System
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question
How does it work? Answer
Swiss system is as follows:
For 16 players - multiply up for more..
8 first round matches randomly drawn, you have 8 winners and 8 losers:
W W W W W W W W L L L L L L L L
After this, players on like records play each other so after reorgainsing the order you would end up with:
WW WW WW WW WL WL WL WL LW LW LW LW LL LL LL LL
And again for another round:
WWW WWW WWL WWL WLW WLW WLL WLL LWW LWW LWL LWL LLW LLW LLL LLL
After one more:
WWWW WWWL WWLW WWLL WLWW WLWL WLLW WLLL LWWW LWWL LWLW LWLL LLWW LLWL LLLW LLLL
At this stage you would probably put the player with 4 from 4 through and discard the player that has lost 4 of 4. You continue along this line until you have either got all the players you need or discarded the number of players you do not need.
Given a long enough time frame and distance, you can organise any list of players from 1 through the end.
