Interleague = superleague right??? The team posted above would win the cambridgeshire region hands down. If it turned up that is. it's not as high a standard as County. Not even sure it's as high as our own prem leage. KSR finished 2nd in superleague this season, some distance ahead of 3rd place. Pushed Ely fairly close and we even beat them once. I would say that after Ely, the average standard of the current superleague teams is about the same as the average of the top half of our Prem league. If St Neots A got their full strength team out every week I would say think they would be a similar standard to KSR though. I'll have what your drinking/smoking/snorting /inhaling ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

since I came to Cambs 3 years ago there were a few names i knew or quickly came to know as top players. ie Simon Rivers, Phil Harrison, Mick Conlon, Mick Lambert, Andy Lindsay. over the past 3 years there has been others who have risen to being classed as top players (if only in Cambs) Such as Mike O'Boyle. Jof Middleton, Will Scott, Paul Stelmaszuk. Carl McDonald, Dom Cobley & Barry Lindsay are scratching at the door. So basically if you are good enough, you will not go un-noticed. To win the National finals there can be NO weak link. Darren Appletons squad consists of the top 16 players in the country..... therefore there is no place for 2nd best and hopefuls. If you are good enough, you will get in. Simple as that. County is different. There is the "B" team to gain experience, improve your game and work your way up like we all had to.
If only you knew the power, of the DARK SIDE.

There you go again, with your usual list of superstars!! You talk, under your county tread about getting in some new blood, players who can not only play pool but will turn up week in week out and build a winning team spirit. There are plenty of such player in Cambridge, many of whom are probably put off with the same hand picked lists! Nothing against any of the players on your list but they will not be able to commit week in week out! I think the Captain may have his work cut out! Best of luck though if the Team comes together, I feel as you say in your County tread you should blood in some new, up and coming talent! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Totally agree tricky black - do you want in? Anyone who wants to can join this team - just let us know who you are - we will have internal trials if we have too many! id like a crack at this!

The team is being put together to win the national title - if you fancy a pop at getting in it then put your names down! Everyone has a chance, if they are good enough they will get in on merit. Yes Simon. You are a nice guy and all but get real! We know who are the best players (at the moment). I doubt if anyone is going to impress so much by January to push the likes of yourself out of this team ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I think you are right to some extent Ian you can probablypick 8 or 10 players without question but i think with the fact that some players are not intending to be available every week means you are probably going to need 14,15 or 16 players and that opens it up for alot more who could be in contention for a place.
it could be good for the team to have a couple of players in the squad not quite ready for the standard of the finals yet but to play some games in the lower standard monday night league games to help bring them through or maybe one of the best young players with the same aim??

There are 3 superleague teams in Camb now..
KSR CSC and now Ian's(Barry's) Superteam.
I think it's understandable to take a slightly elitist attitude to the Superteams construction, considering its ambition. Although, Simon is right, that there is no real harm in holding trials.
Like County, superleague can be a slog what with all the travelling, and some players will find it hard to keep up the commitment (especially if they already play league pool, county, maybe snooker too).
So you need a big squad with a few "Phil Neville-s" and "John O'shea-s" in it simply for their reliability & commitment.
Pesonally speaking, I want very much to get on this team, take whatever chances I get given to play well, and make droping me a difficult decision.
I know there are quite a few others out there with similar desire, and ability!

Firstly, I am not a County Captain. I don't get your point anyway trickyblack??
It is agreed that the team has high ambitions and has every right to handpick the best squad. I agree that not all will be able to make the Monday matches every month also. Here lies the problem.... If we have regular "squad members who turn up every month filling the gaps and getting the team thru, the problem occurs at The finals. The best players WILL be picked nearly all of the time. There is danger the faithful players will be overlooked... where is the solution? I've seen it happen time and time again. I walked out mid-match when I played for the Imperial (London) team because of a similar scenario (long story). I'm happy to have a big squad but there will be casualties.
Incidentally Craig... it is Barry's team. I just started the debate ;D

I don't think I said you were a County Captain.
Perhaps I should make my point clearer.
I would be happy to fill in the gaps. When the time comes, if I am not one of the best 9 players in the team, I accept I may be dropped.
If I feel that I am one of the best 9 and I still get dropped, then I'll just go sulk for a while.

I agree with orrible in respects to how to pick this team with regards to its title ambitions. The standard at Yarmouth for the interleague finals is something else entirely and if you want to win it, there is no room for any weakness and I don't think you can dip below the standard of the likes of Dom Cobley, Ed Savory or Rob Cork (by the way why's Wharton not on the list?) as the last three or four in a squad of 12. With trials, there is always the risk that a better player has an off day and lesser player on a good day takes their place, which for the purposes of this team it is something you can't risk. It's annoying for those who want a crack at such an exciting team and when it happened last time (with S Rivers' dream team) it ultimately led to the formation of the KSR interleague team. The solution is to improve over the year and come through like orrible has pointed out. If you qualify as the other Cambs team, you get to cheer them on anyway. On another front, snooker players aren't always the answer. When it comes to a tough tactical game - and a lot of them at Yarmouth get very gritty - they often get their comuppance, a factor some who were on the Rivers expedition believe to be behind its downfall.

Interestingly, it is perfectly legal to put in a super league team for Yarmouth made up of people who play for different teams on the monday nights as long as they have played at least 50% of the monday night matches. At the pointed end of Yarmouth, most of the frames seem to be over in only a few visits, as we found out when we lost to the eventual winners last time out. In any case Ian, you're going to need a big squad to make sure you have a team turning out each week, and you can't piss people off by having them play most Mondays and then not play in Yarmouth.
