Hi Guys
Sorry its late........
The second Young Player of the Season (YPOTS) was played on Saturday 31st July. Compared to last season a total of 18 young players, only 5 braved the rain in the morning to be at CSC to play for the title sponsored yet again by Simon Rivers.
With only five players we decided to whittle it down to four by playing a round robin best of five frames and eliminating last place.
Sadly this fell to the only over 18 player by having his birthday mid season, Will Brown, who was still probably hung over from his trip to Portugal.
This Left Ashley (defending champion), Alex, Callum & Jordan who won every match & showing some class pool at this stage.
Moving onto the Semi-Finals which was top playing bottom, Jordan v Ashley (last seasons final), & the middle two, Alex & Callum. Results of all matches are listed below.
Alex starting to show some quality pool by totally out playing Callum & wining 5-0. Even though Callum played some cracking shots he could never quite get into the match.
The other semi-final was a rematch of last years final Ashley v Jordan with Jordan set on a bit of revenge from losing last years final. The first frame went to Ashley by Jordan going in-off after a brilliant clearance. After that it was a bit of cat & mouse with both players showing some class shots.
Ashley determined not to give up the title without a fight but Jordan finally came through to win.
Seeing that there were not too many entrants we decided to have a 3rd & 4th place play-off which Ashley won convincingly 5-0 against Callum.
This left the final between Alex & Jordan which by all accounts should have been a cracking match. Especially seeing Jordan had beating everyone getting to the final. However, Alex started to demonstrate to Jordan that competitions are a marathon & not a sprint by turning on the style to win very convincingly 7-0. This is the second year running Jordan has fallen short at the last hurdle but just could not get into the match by winning a frame or two.
I hope all that bothered to attend enjoyed it & those that didn’t, you missed a good day of pool. Thanks guys I enjoyed it.
Well Played Alex & congratulations on winning this year’s young player of the season.
See you on Presentation night.
