Hi All, im of the belief that Thursday night pool means we play on a Thursday night, now i understand that when unfortunate personal circumstances occur some games will have to be re-scheduled, however when a side can not get there team together for one nights scheduled game i believe that that team should forfitt that game & the points awarded to the other team. The team i play for has eight players & this problem does not arise & if it did i would expect us to forfitt our game, not have a back log of games where we needed to play two games for a couple of weeks to get back on track, some of us have lives outside of our pool playing!! ;D

Are you referring to any team in particular or is this just a general rant? Sometimes there are genuine circumstanses!

Not happy if this is directed at us. We postponed 3 matches, due to problems which everyone is aware of. We are within our rights to do this under the constitution. One of these we played within 3 days. The other 2 we are yet to re-arrange.
Rosemary (where I'm presuming u r from - 8 players) have offered us 4 dates (all on Tuesdays), one of which we will take up. We have not said we will not play them at any stage.
There are always going to be reasons why teams can not play on a particular Thursday (Uni teams over xmas). |As long as these games are re-arranged this is fine. However if the team is offereed 3 dates, and can not make any of them, then the committee will intervene.

Its not always that easy we are struggling at the moment but at the start of the year had 9 players and one reserve(which I sure everyone will agree is probably about the right amount of players if not maybe one too many), since then 3 have left/dropped out and its very difficult to sign new players mid season as most people who want to play already have a team. If the rules were different we may have had to play some games with 5 players but as they stand at the moment its acceptable within them to rearrange games and plenty of other teams do it.
A change in the rules might be worth thinking about but awarding the match is too much of a penalty in my opinion and could have a big impact on who wins league's or gets relegated, maybe fines(good money raiser could add to prize money for competitions or trophy funds) or frame deductions is the way to go.

Hi stelmagic, good ideas, i know it wont get sorted & its an ongoing problem, but i guess its all about commitment @ the end of the day by players & teams. I would be all for a frame dedution based on how many players could not turn up, the money/fines idea is good as you would only get players that would commit there time & not drop out leaving there team in the brown, & @ the same time genarating funds for end of season comps/trophys.

Never presume/assume and try to read posts properly before jumping to the wrong conclusions.

I guess the original point is that everyone knows pool night is on a Thursday night, for the five years I have representing the Branch in the CAPL it has been anyway. Everyone knows this and I am sure that due to the size of the league, I guess more than just a few people who enjoy a competitive game of pool have to work/plan around Thursday nights to in order to play.
When it gets to this point in a season where the Sunday night Comps are in full flow you can automatically discount two nights a week to make a rearrangement. Obviously Fridays/Saturdays is going to be difficult as people want to be doing other things. This leaves three other nights which are week nights.
Not everyone has a nine to five job so I guess its down to what night you have the most people available, in any case a team may not be able to field a full strength team for a rescheduled match at all and therefore is at an automatic disadvantage through no fault of their own. (I am not saying this is always the case just exploring possiblities). This then causes indivuals to lose out through no fault of their own and the team may or may not also lose out as a result.
Whether a team has 6 or 12 players, these sorts of situations are going to occur. If you are playing in a competitive team who are doing well, no-one wants to miss a game. Unfortunatly people inevetably do and in this particular situation it is through no fault of thier own. I guess anyone reading this can imagine how frustrating it is if it happens three times before your barely halfway through a season!!

We were on the receiving end of a rearranged game is was good of our opponents’ to give us plenty of time as it was played two weeks before the date was due, It sound easy in hindsight to let the organisers’ no this in stead of waiting for the date the game should of been played to send the result, resulting in a black mark, Maybe good grace of 2 rearranged games per season, after that a dreaded black mark.
