What a load of rubbish on here. Just play pool n get on with it! I hate this quote. This is all good fun. (1) Ed. You are a good player and would be better if you had more time to play. (2) Martin not buying a drink, is Martin being forgetful, simple as that! (3) KSR not putting the balls on the table for their "GUESTS" to practice (I feel) is wrong. :-/Whether it costs 1p or £1. The football card is optional... practice is courtesy (4) I have experienced MoM forgetting to provide food and they quickly got some curry in but the game was over and all my team had left. No-one complained and accepted the error and apology. Maybe you should pay more attention to it though MoM? I know there is some ribbing going on here but hey, don't bite! Every dog has it's day.

As soon as it went 7-4 he did a disappearing act. 'You only sing when you're winning' sprang to mind.

When Simon King potted his black against Barry Lindsay I am sure I heard 'We will Rock You' playing in the background.

On the point of free practice games, I do think that it is a matter of courtesy to provide teams with a free practice before a match but it is not mandatory. Free practice is definitely more the norm these days than ever before, but if some teams do not wish to keep up with everyone else and sit with tradition then that’s up to them. It’s a bit like the food we now enjoy on pool nights; it’s not that long ago that most venues offered sandwiches only, but with a little suggestion and competitiveness we now enjoy cooked food even meals on a regular basis at most venues 5.0

If it makes all you tight b******s happier then I'll pay for your practice frames! Everyone of my team stick £2 on the card at the least when we are at home, its like paying unofficial subs to cover the food, the away team are not pestered to fill the card up as most of it is done by the time it gets to them.

Yep, you see thats not right. When there's a card, the away team should all have at least a square. To be honest, and this is the crux of the whole matter - as far as I can see there's no reason why every venue can't put on free food and provide a free practice frame. When I've played in other leagues that has been the way of it. The point is that a pub with a pool team makes a lot of money out of pool players practicing and buying beer etc on a Thursday (and otherwise quiet) night. Plus more people know where their establishment is and might go back. At the end of the day, this is all about venues trying to squeeze as much money out of us as possible!

For once I agree with Ed. Free practice frame, plus free food universally would make this an even more Friendly league. However, I do want to clarify a few points. Yes, I am a big boy, but unlike you, you silly insignificant SOB, I have played at a level where you don't have to 'Get used to it'. In civilized pool tournaments, which one day you may get to watch, although never play in, it is all about yourself, your opponent, and the tables. Ask Simon, or Mick, or Carl, or Ian Norris, or Andy Lindsay, or Mickey Lambert, or anyone else round here that has competed on a Tour that you would be hard pushed to even qualify for. No partisan crap, a quiet, civilized atmosphere where you can concentrate. I also don't think that Martin is a bad sport, I was making the point that your home games at your venue aren't always like clockwork, and if you weren't so blinded by your Backstreet Boy haircut you would have seen that a mile off. I don't believe, either, that playing at the Romsey makes me 'special'. What makes me special, at least on a local level, is that I don't judge myself as a player on one frame pool results in what is purported to be a FRIENDLY league. There is a bigger picture, and it seems to me that you, Ed, will never see it. One more thing. Mr Rivers, I was not having a pop at you about the food, or lack thereof. It may have come across that way, but I was just making the point that you apologized. It wasn't your responsibility, or fault, and it IS the first time that has happened to me at The Moon. (Not the first time this season though, as the Rathmore well know!)

some of these posts are getting a tad personal even by my low standards.
However, i like people speaking their mind.
Ed. I get your point and I understand you defending your team and pub.
The Backer is spot on!
Coming from my previous teams the food was always free and laid on by the Pub. Football cards were never used AT ALL anywhere in London, so it is all new to me.
We have debated football cards before and it is only recently I realised they were to cover the cost of food in some places (The Rathmore being one). I dis-agreed with it then as I do now!
I have seen football cards used in the past but the proceeds were used for a team Piss up at the end of the season or towards Yarmouth costs.
ALL PUBS SHOULD BUY THE DAMN FOOD.

Typical 'Ed' to divide the cost down to how much it costs per player/per practice frame/per slice of pizza...........per chip. Ed, yet again, you miss the point..........ITS NOT THE F>>>>>ING MONEY. Its a case of: 'Welcome to our venue' 'Would you guys like a practice game, on us, to get used to the table' 'Would you like a drink because we just played that frame in good spirit' 'Have some food on us, as you are our guests for the evening' When you get that message into your thick head, you might understand what people on here are really saying. By the way, I am not sure whether 'masterofceremonies' comment about your haircut was meant as a compliment or not ! ! don't you mean ... 'Welcome to our venue, WE'LL BE THERE IN HALF AN HOUR!' 'Would you guys like a practice game, on us, to get used to the table, BECAUSE IT'S POO!' But seriously ... yes, the games should be played in a fair spirit and sometimes certain players do overstep this for example by walking past your line of sight or talking to you / about you when you are playing a shot. These things are not acceptable. I will pay for your practice frames next time you come to ours and anyone else's that has a problem with not having a free practice game. I do understand people's reasoning on this and I think you have a fair point.
