Whilst its always nice for the underdog to scrape a victory against a giant, why is it that the big boys can't lose gratiously?
1. I was not even offered a drink after winning my singles (no names mentioned, but he plays at number 6). I believe there was a stewards regarding a drink for another game
2. No food provided
3. Only two of their players approached my team to shake hands after the game (admittedly one had already left)
There's really no point going any further. For such a good team, with a good team spirit, why don't they just concentrate on doing what they do best and thats to play pool rather than intimidate the opposition?
Ok, you're disappointed at losing...just like any other team. The Rathmore, absolutely disgusted with our table, still managed to shake hands and congratulate the underdog.
Yes people are aware that a petite disagreement exists hovers in the air but this should not affect the rest, that is a great bunch of lads who enjoy a night out in the spirit that is the CAPL.

I love the MoM boys but if this is true (lets get the other side of the story first) then I am not at all impressed. Being a gracious loser is part of being a worthy competitor and sportsman. I can imagine the "sportsmanship" going on during this Match but at the end of the day there is a right way and a wrong way of handling winning and losing. Well done Romsey!

Why do we have to listen to all this c**p off the Romulons? After a perfectly normal match with them at our place, we had to read endless tales on the forum about drinks, food, tables, bad sportsmanship etc etc (some of it very personal (but fortunately removed off the forum before anyone saw!)) basically because they are bad losers (see above). They seem to have appointed themselves CAPL police constantly going on about other teams problems. Take a long hard look at yourselves before throwing stones. Your table is the worst in the league by a million miles. It is a disgrace to 'the spirit that is the CAPL' !!!

Ed- If a 'perfectly normal' match at your place involves; 1. The opposition not being given a practice, and 2. One of the opposition players having to start a stewards enquiry to get someone on your team to buy a drink after losing, Then it seems to me you have lost all sense of perspective and need to crawl back into the hole you crawled out of. What is the name of your little world where narrow minded, ill informed whinging is deemed to be forward thinking and righteous? The fact is that last night, after a night marred by the partisan atmosphere, only 2 players came over and congratulated us on a surprise win. Baz, because he is one of the lads, and Mick Conlon, to his credit, because he HAS been there Ed, like you never will, and knows how to win and lose and still emerge with some vestiges of self respect. Other points made by Sav are true too, such as the fact that we left at 10:45 and until we mentioned it, no-one seemed to think about putting on food. Simon apologized profusely, but the point remains. I had made my mind up not to say anything on this topic, but Ed's tunnel vision and ignorant blatherings about things he wasn't even there to see do my bloody head in. For the record, yes our table is an embarrassment. But we don't try to intimidate the opposition, put them off, or start arguments over buying drinks.

Well, for all those people who thought we had a Moontain to climb by going to Norfolk Street an winning, they are now silenced. The only severe inclines we need to worry about are the ones on our own table as we hit the dizzy heights of 2nd in the league. As for the food situation, personally i tucked into the extra extra low fat chips and my favourite were the 'see through sandwiches' which complimented the newly improved 'invizzi pizza' very well. Maybe times are hard at the Mom and Speedie needs to save money for nappies for his new offspring. Despite what I have said I agree with the above post that it was a nice touch that Barry and Mick congratulated us on our unexpected win. (By the way Barry, Simon has been practising Blacks like that all week)

Which Simon? Our Simon, who slapped in an absolute 'gimme' against Baz (which they thought was too difficult for him!), or their Simon, who would probably rather forget his 2 blacks in 2 frames. Hard to tell who you mean Thommo, please enlighten. (Sorry Mr Rivers, all in jest, just not the face, ok?!!)

Err, Richard, your team were offered a practice game on our table. Exactly the same as EVERY other team that comes to the Run, or has done for at least 5 years. The fact that no-one on your team wanted to cough up 80p is your issue. Not ours.
Secondly, and this has already been discussed, Martin genuinely forgot about the drink thing and he apologised for it when it was pointed out. I will be first to put up my hand and admit to having done that myself.
I think Ed isn't chuffed about some of the more personal insults that were posted and is perhaps taking it out on the wrong person. But I won't apologise for him. He's a big enough boy to explain himself.
Top result from you guys last night. And I will join you in agreeing that the Moon really do know how to put on an intimidating atmosphere when they need to.
I have no doubt that the Run will experience one hell of a reception when we visit there in 2 weeks. I, for one, am looking forward to it....

I think 1 Simon has been practising blacks all week.....hence getting that 'gimme' against Barry. The other, well........maybe more hours on the green baize and less in front of the fruit machine could be the order of the day. Mind you, him looking at those fruits all night on the reels got him a lot closer to food than we got.

I like the RUN and all the people, and always enjoy playing there. However... I feel strongly the pub should fork out the 80p for the practice game.
You can't defend this point saying that it's only 80p, because that argument works both ways. It's not even about the money to be fair.
Every other venue allows the opposition a free practice game. It's a polite and warm gesture that you have no reasons not to adopt.
You should concede this point.

No. I won't concede the point because this is the way it has always been. No issue has been made until the Romsey did.
And, anyway, it's £1 now.....

Hasn't it gone up to £1 now? I don't think it really matters.. You don't get hassled to fill in a football card, and it's just a £1.

Maybe there should be a change to the costitution to say that if a home team provides free food the away team should pay for their practice game

I contested the point last summer league when we played you, and got some big fella I didn't recognise all up in my face about it.
You don't get hassled for a football card at Team CSC either.
Why are you even arguing? I can't think of a single good reason why you shouldn't give a free practice game.
"because that's the way it's always been" is a terrible reason, closed, and lacking substance.

No one has ever conplained about this before but you're the romsey and you think you're special ... 2. for the 10th time, Martin forgot to ask him for a drink. If you can't accept that then you're accusing Martin of being unsporting which he definitely isn't. 3. I don't live in a hole. I accept how the league has run for the last 4 years and go along with it. Then again you're the Romsey and you think you're special ... 4. you should come out from your hole and see the atmosphere when we play the moon. ******* brilliant and the more partisan the better - makes if all the better when you win 5. I'm sure Simon was sincerely sorry for not providing food and probably a bit embarrassed too. I expect it won't happen again. Normally the moon put on a good spread with lots to go around. Maybe you pissed them off too much last time turning up late and expecting them to level the table. Then again you're the Romseyand you think you're special ... QUOTE: For the record, yes our table is an embarrassment (AGREED) But we don't try to intimidate the opposition (GET OVER IT - YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW - I THOUGHT YOU HAD 'MADE IT' - SURELY YOU SHOULD BE USED TO THIS BY NOW!), put them off, or start arguments over buying drinks (YES YOU DO!).[/quote] and finally on a personal note ... you keep on telling me how I'm not good at pool and that I haven't 'made it' (whatever that means). Well you can p*ss off. I basically play one night a week because I have a busy personal life. In the last 5 seasons I've been in the top 5 of the hotshots 3 times and for the record you've been nowhere near. What I care about is my team winning the league and on doing well in Yarmouth. We've won the league recently and I expect we will win it again this year. for me that is good enough so do us all a favour and shut up!!!!!!

To be honest I was enjoying the fact that the moon stopped being the issue and that the Run & the Romsey were going at it! Anyway, I appologise if we appeared to be bad sports last night, I for one was very annoyed with myself and was in a bit of a world of my own (i think I called myself an idiot about 50 times!). The Romsey played well and have virtually handed the league to the Run. Regarding the food I honestly cant say why it was not out, possibly it was not ready in time (of course this is not a good enough excuse. I can say that in more than 10 years of playing in Speedys' teams it has never happened before so there must have been a good reason, appologies for that again Romsey!
Once again congrats to Romsey and the Run!
