The CAPL is open to player 14 plus (Landlords permission is required) I've always found this a strange rule. I realise that Pubs may not be the best hangout for an under-14yr old, but my view is that this judgment call should be made by the parent/landlord, and not the CAPL. For example.. A 12yr old signs for CSC-A They get to play all the home fixtures, but their Mum won't allow them to play away at certain fixtures because they don't want them going to certain pubs. Isn't that better than saying they can't play at all until they are 14yrs old? Perhaps I haven't thought this through correctly?

I've already asked about the age thing, Craig. I got told it was due to the laws surrounding minors in pubs after 9pm.

I too would be happy to help where i can, i have a few ideas and some experience, i was the youth team manager when Cambs youth team won the nationals, have also managed a region 4 select youth team and Herts youths.
The players are out there, off the top of my head i know of 5-6 players who would walk into a county youth team who currently do not play because no one has asked them or encouraged them to play.

A few years ago at the finals in Yarmouth, on the saturday night they would run a seniors/youths flier this was very popular with the youth players as it gave them the chance to play with a good standard senior player, all our youths looked forward to playing in this all season, i remember players like Mick Hill Gareth Potts etc playing in this as youths. The point being i think doubles with a senior player is good for them epecially when you look at our senior players available, Rivers, Mick, Ian, Stel, Joff etc

Perhaps you can pass on their names and contact details so when the county trials come round someone can talk to them and hopefully they trial. cheers

May I suggest Bazza/Simon Stepney organise the youth side & Stelmagic (as he has volunteered) organice the senior side of things, we will then come together on the day and draw partners out of a hat (or something like that).

Well I am glad there has been an enthusiastic response to my initial question. It was depressing at the last match from the "A" squad bcause there is a feeling that there are very few players emerging , which obviously not the case.
I am not knocking the scotch doubles idea, I am saying it isn't the road I wish to go down if I were to get involved. However, I can see the benefit for a one off open day.
Again, we do not want to tread on anyones toes here but I would like to suggest a meeting of, so far.. Barry, Ian, Paul, Sarah, Simon, Dale, Steppers... and anyone else who is keen to put together a very strong squad and foundation for this coming season?
Are you all up for a meeting?

Seems to be a bit of interest in this scotch doubles event I will have a word with Bazza and Simon tonight discuss a date and a format and then get the ball rolling.

If you shut the back door at County, more people can come through the front.

If you shut the back door at County, more people can come through the front. as long as they actually take up the offer to enter when it is made

Tonight is a great night to discuss a way forward with this, with Bazza, me, Stel, Simon's there. We need to keep numbers down in the way of input and pushing this forward. Too many cooks and all that, but there is always call for departmentalizing roles.
I brought this up in order to take on a leading role, if someone else wishes to run with it, so be it.

Ian I think you definitely have the skills and the desire to head this up I am happy to support a coaching school as much as I am required, I have come to the game of pool 10 years too late to really make an impact as a player with probably my best years behind me it would be nice to see other locals take to the game earlier.

Thank you Paul. My reasoning is simple: The County is waining. Many of the ex pro's and top players are retiring and we need to make sure the gap is filled. If I am to remain in Pool I need a challenge, This is a challenge.
The flip side is we need to retain the top players that we do have, ie Phil, Simon, Paul, Richard, myself. With Jof, Michael, Rob etc continually improving we need to start showing some spirit along with bringing on the younsters. I shall be looking to encourage the County board to invite back some of the players from the past to give these guys the pedastal they need to reach. I just hope that this doesn't cause friction? The trials are great but they have yet to be a benefit to the "A" side.
