Time to get Cambs future in place.
Who's up for backing me to help to bring on the kids?
Can I do it?
I have some ideas...

Already spoke to you about this. Having a player of your calibre involved with the youth side could only be a good thing. Revolutionary Ideas? Let's hear 'em...

No doubt the kids are the way forward, get yourself over fulbourn one tuesday mate the 4 lads I met last night (3 16 year olds and a 12 year old) all have genuine ability, they just need experience against better opponents. Other way would be to get involved in the youth cup I think the next fixture is this saturday (could be wrong with that date ) there are usually 20 or so players from ages 8 to 16.

Yeah it could and should be put on the site really, we will sort it out. About 20 kids atm, 2 leagues, think they play each other 4 times each throught the season. Come down check it out mate.

OK cool.
I am looking at a Pool school. I will am planning on fronting it with guest appearances from local experienced players and other Pro's throughout the year.
I will also be looking at promoting the league, County squad and School through the local schools. This is of course "pie in the sky" at the moment and I mustn't tread on anyones toes. I am merely looking to offer my time, not to disregard efforts that have already been made.
I here the youth are already extremely well managed so if I can add anything I would be more than happy to.

good idea.
Lets not forget the cash incentive.
We don't want to get politically correct and avoid real competition.
I'm sure CSC will be more than happy to provide the tables and the entry can be as little as £5.
I think there may be some kind of paperwork from parents needed though??..
I suggest a one off event costin £5 with winnings going to 2-3-4- and 1st getting the cue. Who will pay for the cue tho?
and a plate comp of course..

My thoughts on this: I really really LIKE this attitude and what you are all proposing. Competitive experience is everything. Bring up a new group of talented wobble free players. This would be good for the sport and good for this county. I bet if you asked, John would sponsor the cue himself, (although obviously I do not speak for him). My time is precious and hard to commit to at the moment, although I would like to support this cause, so I will donate to the fund. Anyone else...... collection at county Free plate competition so the little lads and laddettes keep happy through the day. If you get too much money, have 2 or more events rather than raising the prize fund. Keep the fund just high enough to promote a little bit of seriousness. Perhaps lessons on side tables from the top men (Paul, Simon, Ian, Phil...etc), exhibitions on the side with talk through etc. Anyone else ??Paul

very generous offer to put £ in paul and I sure the youths would be grateful of the cash to play for but apart from bringing more players to the scene(good result to have extra players but I think the idea is to improve the standard of the ones we have) I dont see throwing cash at it as the solution, I think the youngsters just need to play better/more experienced players.
I would like to propose a scotch doubles tournament as a suggestion one senior and one 17 years old or under player I think this would be a real chance for the kids to learn and mix with the players they aspire to be.
Any thoughts??

If anyone wishes to sponser a youth cup that would be prefferable. Any promotion material would have the sponsers logo of course. Donations can be made but would be better to be given to a trust, possibly to Sarah? I wouldn't like to make people feel they bad if their name wasn't on here as a contributer We have a youth cup already and a youth league!

scotch doubles wouldn't work Paul.
Scotch doubles is a bit of fun (like killer) it teaches the opposite to what I want to teach. Scotch pairs takes the fluidity out of Pool.
Kids just want to pot balls mainl. Having a partner will slow them down and get down if they play a bad shot.

I disagree mate most of them need slowing down and pointing out where they are playing wrong shots. I dont think a few hours of scotch doubles will turn them into pocket covering non-fluid players. If the comp. happened the emphasis could be on fun, medals awarded for all the kids who played and trophies for the top 3 it does not have to be super serious. As for getting down when playing a bad shot you learn more from a defeat than any victory and the feeling of playing for someone else is something they need to learn with all the team pool that goes on.

Nice to see on this forum the number of adults that have idears and want to get involved in the future of pool in Cambridge. The pool that is available to the youths is as follows :- Youth Pool League is every 2nd Saturday, there are 2 leagues if 10 players who regestered at £10 per head. Each youth plays 3/4 matches of 3 frames over 6 months (3 already played) followed by the Youth Cup open to 15 and under scheduled for March ??. The CAPL is open to player 14 plus (Landlords permission is required) County youth pool, 1 match to play, with youth county trials in January. (I am sure this will be dicussed at County AGM on the 10th December).
