After seeing the team selection for the England squad what are the odds on McDoughnut being out of a Job by next Thursday? Who is favorite to take his place?

I think a wet sock could do a better job.
What we really need is a whole new panel on the FA.
Martin O'Neil went for an interview for the England job, said he would have accepted the job, but the FA turned him down in favor of McClaren.
Given the choice between O'Neil & McClaren I think 99% of the football interested population on the planet would have chosen O'Neil without even having to interview him. It's a no brainer.. isn't it?
In answer to the question.... I really can't think of anyone of note that would say yes.
Do you think it should be an English manager?

If we want to go for an english manager then big sam. He done a good job at bolton has got the geordies off to good start this season so i think if available would be a good choice. The only thing is he's got baggage with him with the whole agent bung situation which could make a few more headlines in the media!

Unfortunately, he'll never say yes so close to accepting his new job.
What English managers does that leave?
Stuart (little) Pearce.. Terry Vengaboys.. Steve the Bruce.. Harry Rednose..

Why not? some managers have either been sacked or resigned alo sooner than this. Martin allen took over at leicester just over a month ago and he's no longer there and anyone remember how long steve coppell was in charge of man city before he resigned? i thinkit was about 2 weeks so anythings possible!!!

There isnt an english manager capable. Much as I hate Arsenal I believe our next manager could well be Wenger as long as Maclaren is gone within the week.

Has just taken over as under 21 manager Terry Vengaboys.. been there, done that, failed misserably Steve the Bruce.. A possible, but i don't think his chairman will let him go Harry Rednose.. in my opinion is not good enough If its going to be an English manager then i think we'll be in the same boat as with Mclaren. Theres a few British managers that i rate quite good that could do the job tho. Martin O'Niel (obvious choice) Mark Hughes (has done a good job at Blackburn and done well with Wales too) Lawrie Sanchez (has totally transformed Fulham, and done a great job with Northan Ireland)

Who is favorite to take his place? they wont be able to afford to sack him if they end up paying liverpool compensation because they played gerrard against the clubs will with an injected foot, surely we have enough quality to beat russia and israel without him.

Well L Kapitan it looks like saturday was money well spent!! Who would of known Mcdoughnut ( as juls expertly called him) would of pulled off a master stroke and recalled Barry and the amazing Heskey!!
I've got to be honest that when i see the latter in the squad never mind the starting line up i thought it must of April 1st but fair play to him he played well and should he start again against Russia or should it be robot man Crouch? Can't believe i'm saying this but HESKEY FOR ENGLAND!

OK, he did give thier defence a bit of a run around on the odd occasion, but lets be fair it was against Isreal.

Can't believe i'm saying this but HESKEY FOR ENGLAND! I wouldn't call it a master stroke.. McClaren was forced to play that side due to injury. And from what I gather in the press, it was as much Owens idea to bring back heskey as anyone elses. McClaren is a 'yes' man who lacks the minerals to drop lampard for the sake of a good midfield partnership. Crouch will play up front tomorrow, because if it goes wrong McClaren can justify his decision with stats.

Yes we beat a country where the population is pretty much equivalent of that of London and their best 2 players will spend most of this season keeping the bench warm at Anfield and Stamford bridge lets not get too excited!
No doubt we will beat russia too today and qualify from what is a pretty easy group all things considered but can we beat quality teams? Time will tell...........

I wouldn't be to confident about the win tonight as you know in the past just as us fans get a positive performance we so often get let down.
Lefty, the early chance Heskey had i agree he should have done better but then strikers don't score every chance they get. Crouch has a decent goal scoring record but of them goals about half for England were against small teams eg Trinidad, Andorra, Jamaica etc and he doesn't do half th work what Heskey does. All i'm saying is i'd play Heskey again as we've not really got much else that works with Owen
