The composition for the Winter 2018-19 season
Committee:
James Griffiths has stepped down from the committee.
Paul Marshall has been welcomed to join the committee.
Changes to the divisional secretary roles:
Division 2 - Paul Marshall
Division 7 – Dave Edwards
Season start dates:
*John Bradford Premier league 11/10/18.
Being a week later than Divisions 1-7. This is due to every season’s first week fixtures having the hassle of postponing, rearranging their fixture due to the National Interleague Knock Out Cup commitment, of which many Premier teams are involved.
With falling behind the rest of the league with the amount fixtures being played, the Premier league will then catch up by playing a full fixture list on the same evening as the T.K.O. 1st rd.
*Divisions 1-7 04/10/18.
The Summer 2018 season had 77 entries, with 6 teams declined to enter the following season.
The Winter 2018/19 season will have 77 entries, with 6 new teams entering.
Many teams have new team names, change of venues, captains & other contact details changing.
Teams withdrawn:
Fulbourn S.S.C. (Bakers)
King’s Head
Blue Moon Xports
NCI A
White Lion (B)
Carlton Arms B
Section 17 - Promotion, Relegation, and Play-offs
Point 1. The top 2 teams in each division will be promoted and the bottom 2 teams in each division will be relegated where there is another division for them to move in to.
Section 12 - Team/Player Eligibility & Registration
Point 3. The Committee will aim to place new teams in a division reflecting their ability.
New Teams:
*Cambridge Uni (A) – Division 3 (Same team that won Division 4 in the Winter 2017/18 season).
*Chestnut Tree – Division 4 (New team, New venue, no players with any CAPL recorded history, Winners of the Haverhill Pool League Division 2).
*CSC Bantasaurus X – Division 5 (New team, all listed players with CAPL recorded history, highest available placing).
*Milton 8 Ball (C) – Division 6 (New Venue, Venue was introduced during the Summer 2018 season. New team, all listed players with CAPL recorded history, majority history playing in the lower Divisions).
*Girton S.C – Division 7 (15 listed players, only 3 players with any recorded history, with 2 players with Division 7 & 8 recorded history).
*Cambridge Uni (B) – Division 7 (Same team, returned to Division 7 from the Winter 2017/18 season).
Competitions:
With a lot of help from Amanda Rout & Dom Cooney, we were able to gather a list of all the non-CAPL competitions/events that our CAPL registered players enter, prioritising with importance & most attended, thus if possible, not to clash with our own CAPL competitions, allowing the possibility of all CAPL registered players being able to enter in all competitions. Amazingly we were able to avoid all non-CAPL competitions/events.
New Competition - The Handicapped Seniors Cup.
Open to all entries that are over the age of 50, within the competition registration deadline date of each season.
The format will be with handicaps ranging from 0 to +6. Race length will vary depending on handicaps, with the lower handicap having to win between 2 to 4 frames, depending on the opponent’s handicap difference. Handicaps will be discussed by the committee as a whole, before the competition & will be presented on the day.
TKO:
Over many years, players have been disgruntled by the fact of starting the season with only 1 league fixture, then the following week playing a T.K.O. fixture, preferring to play at least 2 League fixtures to settle in. So, this season the T.K.O. 1st rd. will be played on the 3rd week, thus having 2 league fixtures prior.
Additional Avoided dates:
Valentine’s Day – Thursday 14th Feb (A free week).
St. Patrick’s Day – Sunday 17th March (all CAPL competitions avoided for that weekend).
Streaming:
Last season we had the introduction of Live streaming of a few matches, we’ve got James Burgess to thank, for committing his own free time & his using own equipment in doing so, also with Nathan Sanders doing a few T.K.O. draws live streaming, of which both was a success & had great reviews. May they both continue if able.
Scorecards:
Very importantly, the 1st week’s scorecards need to be filled in fully, Christian + Surname, also spelling of names is just as important, as each individual player has to be entered in the computer, to link up with your history for your recorded stats. If names are just written with initials, then I will have to spend a lot of time chasing the captains up, to get these details. (the 1st week’s scorecards may be delayed for a few days, depending on how my holiday is going, of which I never update if I’m intoxicated).
Wishing everyone to have an enjoyable Winter 2018/19 season.
Always open to ideals, to keep improving & moving forward (if possible) your Cambridge Area Pool League, with the help of everyone.
