Yo
The Emperor A at the Rathmore 6 v Mickey Flynn's C at WT's 6
A very enjoyable night with these guys as usual. However, the pool was ridiculous. Scott missed a fairly straight forward black to the middle in the first frame for 1-0 us. Then the Panda declared that no way was he losing to a Monkey. The battle of the zoo culminated with the Panda having an easy black to the middle. He missed and then after a couple of shots I had a long black. Barracking ensued as I was told I could not see that far but somehow managed to pot it for 2-0 to us. Thommo made a good clearance for 2-1. Next Dan Bowles (losing streak of maybe 10) was up against Luke. Now Dan has had some bad luck in his streak but he just avoided going in off on one shot and just avoided knocking an opponents ball in on another. We won for 3-1. Andy Bowles got in front in the next but missed the black. John snookered him . Andy managed to pot the black from a one cushion escape but sadly the white followed it in. A touch unlucky in my view. Mickey Lambert had not arrived so we skipped his frame. In the next frame Shaun got in front but Thommo snookered him well a few times to engineer a chance and finish nicely.
It was then decided that Mickey was not coming and they put in Rob Scott instead. Rob is an accomplished player but was probably a bit rusty. He still managed to win although in potting the black in the middle the white rattled the jaws of the corner pocket. Pretty standard for this match. This made it 4-3 to WT's. Next up was myself and Luke. I went in off and Luke cleared up nicely down to the black. He had two and played it long into the corner and left it right in the pocket. Then he managed to knock the black in and the white followed into the same pocket. Luke was gutted. Our captain had to change the scorecard as he had already put a 1 by Luke's name. I almost conceded but was glad I didn't. Sam made a decent clearance in the next (I think) for 5-4 to us. At this point a few of us were saying that no one deserves to win and a draw would be fair. Dan Bowles has two on the black in the next but misses and it is 5 each. Scott should have dished the next but missed his last red. Andy should then have been in charge but we managed to lose that for 6-5 WT's.
The last fame took an age. The Panda was in control but Mark hung on in there. He had one shot that I don't think I can describe but he went to hit his ball after the cushion. He missed completely, the white came across the table and then back into the object ball. All this whilst an opposition colour was blocking the bag and somehow did not drop. Outrageous. The frame went on for a while longer before Mark knocked in a decent double and it was a draw.
Nobody deserved to win. A poor match. We both take something from it and we had a good night.
As the Covill would say keep smiling.
My first night down the Rathmore as a home team. Enjoyed it immensely.
