Emperor Penguins 5-7 Fulbourn Institute
Really great match between two very closely matched teams, for me Dave's excellent clearance to put them 5-3 up when he was under immense pressure was what swung such a tight match, congrats to Fulbourn on a well-deserved promotion.

andy brown is a superb player if they had him every week they wouldn't lose i know one player doesn't make a team but one of that quality instills confidence in the rest everyone played well last night really even with all the dimmer switch issues lol but congrats to fulbourn and with the usual divisional rejigs im sure there's a very good chance we will be in the same division next season so bring it on !!!

What a great last night of the season, playing away against what I believe is the strongest team (alongside us!)in this division, knowing we needed a draw to clinch second spot, and if Hardwick slipped up, a win would take us to top spot - with the Penguins needing to beat us to pip us for the runners up spot.
They even had a lad in a Penguin suite to complete the atmosphere! (If I had known I would have brought some fish to throw him)
Amusingly, Mauler tried some Fergie "mind games" tactics, with a text the day before to say he only had 4 players, and no "Pud" but we are a bit too streetwise to fall for that one lol! For a game of this importance we agreed that they would have plenty of players, almost certainly including some ringers.
We were proven right, they had players to spare, (didn't even need to let the Penguin play) and a ringer, a former Workies player with the pseudonym of Badger who traveled all the way from Twickenham just for the match! (and who turned up for the second half? - you guessed it - "Pud!")
Mind you, we dragged out Andy Brown for a rare outing and he duly obliged with the quality we know he has to finish the season on 6 for 6. (he's still not as good as his brother Dan though lol)
Some great pool played in great spirits, with Mauler using his tactical experience to win his second frame, but the shot of the night had to be Gavalar's Black to clinch the draw at 6-5 and therefore promotion for us - snookered on the black, he hit it cushion first and doubled it across the table straight into the middle bag!
It finished 7-5 to us for a great last night win after yet another super clearance from Michael "Hotshots" Shipton, but it could have gone either way - unlike most teams in this division, the Penguins have no obvious weak links - and they are a real nice bunch to boot. (Mike - start playing again, you are far too good to stop!)
With the Emperor, we have also at last found a venue to rival the legendary Portland Arms for food quality - it was superb!!
Although room is limited around it, they also have a decent table,(once you got used to the super-fast cloth - one of the few faster than our own at the Institute)and so, all in all, we hope that we will be playing the Penguins again soon!

The Badger played well, and if he plays next season, they will be a real force - thought he was a bit unlucky to lose his second frame - maybe it was us urging Andy to slow it down so he would miss his train home that put him off!
Forgot to mention the other highlight for us was Robbie's great long double on the Black, which if he had missed would have left his oponent in for an easy finish - we were muttering "don't do it" but it flew in!

you got gavs black slightly wrong mate it was more impressive than that as he was snookered came of the cushion to hit and sent it across the table off the cushion and into the opposite centre pocket and just before he played his shot i whispered to dean this is almost certainly in one of the middles and i was duly proved right for a change lol i wasnt gonna have enough players till pete offered then about an hour before the match i got floods of texts from most who have played for us on odd occasions thoroughout the season so i told them to come down and then the shock was pud buzzing me to say he was on his way back from london and can make the game if needed and as he has been ever present for us i thought why not it was a fab night and honestly i wasnt that gutted at losing as i said to my team the second half of the season we were the best team first half dont know what happened lol next season whichever division we will be in im sure we will be right up there (unless we are put in the prem ) incidentally do you fulbourn chaps fancy a pre season friendly at our place

Thanks Soulman, Being honest after Andy gave me two visits I had a chance of the finish but as you know the table is lightning quick and I misjudged it slightly. Not clearing up was my downfall and credit to Andy as he cleared up well. Good luck to your for next season mate!

The run D was who he played for and don't think they ever got promoted but he did go up from 3rd place when I captained the Rock B in their 2nd season just before the stats were put on here, I Beleive it's the season just before Monkey's stats start.
