restricting the amount of teams would make people try harder to find a venue Steve. It's the easy option is it not? Especially for the "Shandy Sharers" I'm not against too many teams at CSC. Just too many in one division!
I prefer restricting teams at one venue because I like to visit different pubs Craig. I'm not alone, I'm just not afraid to say what a lot of people are moaning about. What is the point of 5 CSC teams playing each other? They all represent one place! It's ever so silly!

Surely if they aren't saying it it's because they don't care that much about it. Personally I'm not really a fan of pubs or drinking and I couldn't call a less if they all shut down. Surely that's a far riskier opinion to hold. Regardless, you don't have to be playing pool to go visit them if you so wish. Some may even let you in! I hear plenty people in the CAPL moaning about how their pub doesn't give a crap about their pool team, doesn't recloth the table, doesn't care if it's level, doesn't keep it unobstructed, etc... CSC offers a far better home for teams in that position and has plenty of accommodation. Where else would you suggest these ex-pub teams go as I'm led to believe pubs are more interested in dinner tables than pool table these days.

I'm with Orrible on this one. When the CAPL started out most of the fun was going to places where you wouldn't usually go. Having to go to CSC 5 times is ridiculous. Is this the CSC Pool League now? Sounds to me like people don't have much imagination when they can't play at their venue anymore and decide instead to follow the sheep into one pen. That's the leagues fault for allowing that to happen. There's plenty of options out there. On the other hand i'm happy to reconsider if the quality of food improves

Craig, you are out of order saying you couldn't care less if all the pubs close down. Pubs were traditionally a place for the working man to meet, or should we all play pool on Facebook?
CSC is a seriously boring, if convenient, venue.
Personally when I play pool I prefer a nice jukebox and a homely feel, not to mention a little home advantage on the table.
Having said that, this is not the fault of CSC as all the pubs are closing down or kicking out their pool teams so that they can get more punters to eat.
I have been in teams in the past that would spend £200+ on booze in a night and perhaps the pubs are overlooking this variable!

I'm not knocking the place but half the division in one venue is ridiculous. There could be 7 teams in the Prem playing from there next summer

Craig, you are out of order saying you couldn't care less if all the pubs close down. Pubs were traditionally a place for the working man to meet, or should we all play pool on Facebook? Huh?. I'm perfectly entitled to hold an opinion on how I feel about pubs closing down and then express that opinion on here. I don't get how that makes me out of order? I'm not actively against pubs. I'm basically indifferent to their existence because they hold little to no value to me if they exist or not. Same way I don't care if the local haberdashery closes down. Of course now that you've riled me I would add (with a big tongue in cheek), that few traditional working men have blow their traditional working weeks wages on needlework materials before going back to their traditional working wives and throttling them in the most traditional manner with them

I always thought a big plus to our league is that groups could set up a team from any venue they chose as long as it had a pool table; any restrictions just destroys that ideal. It is clear that a few people on this thread want to visit lots of different pubs during the course of a pool season... if it's that important might I suggest you give up pool and just go for a social drink on a Thursday night? Some people want to play pool and they set up a team or join a team where they would prefer to play the majority of that league pool... others want to travel the local area visiting local pubs and places with pool tables like a bunch of trainspotters (pool table spotters?). Everyone wants something different but why try to fix something that's not broken.

Some of us play in a league with two divisions, the second of which has 6 teams, spread over 7 venues, have a presentation night consisting of three men and a dog and the nicest playing surface we have is the local barmaid.
Be thankful for what you have Ian!

Yo
I personally prefer a pub atmosphere and to play pool at a pub. However, i do not think it would be right for the league to impose restrictions on the number of teams from any venue. A team should be allowed to play from whatever venue they choose. I am not sure exactly how many teams are at CSC. Maybe 11? There are five in the top division. As previously mentioned in this thread, better players generally prefer better tables. These are generally found at CSC. It is also no coincidence, in my opinion, that most of the decent tables outside of CSC in the top division are venues where the Landlord's are actively involved. I am thinking of the Moon, Run and Rathmore. Craig is entitled to his opinion on Pubs but i disagree. Pubs and Clubs are the social gathering places for most people. Without them i certainly wouldn't have met so many great people in the Cambridge area.

Would seem pool is becoming less and less a pub sport, whether this is bad or good depends upon your persausion.
