Any chance of the Mens Singles draw being posted as we only have 10 days until it is due to be played, and some ppl may need to make arrangments depending on where they are drawn.

They have already been posted to the all venues Matt, and should have arrived by this evening. I will put all the competition draws up on the forum within the next day for the internet generation.

Thats still a bit late late Steve, especially as its the Summer season and players go away alot. Whats more, it didn't give the full draws eitehr, only where each person was. it is kinda nice to know whos in your group before you get there

There was enough information in the letter for the players to make the required arrangements. The full draw is now posted on the forum. We had 21 days between the deadline and the Singles. We have got the draws to the venues 10 days before the Singles. I am not sure exactly what you expect?

Matt you do make a mountain out of a mole hill mate, you know the date of the singles when filling in the registration form. Other than knowing your venue what more do you need?

Deano, you have sat on the committee of a social club so you know what its like when trying to arrange whats going on. Things have to go before the committee.
A Social club will always take a booking on a first come first serve basis. The singles didn't give us enough notice that the venue was being used (not a certainty now only 16 venues are used) meaning that arrangements had to be made last minute to try and accomodate everything that was going on. Yes we could have assumed we were to be used, but like i said with only 16 venus now used we are not to know how many venues have said they wish to be used, or what venues will hold which events until the committee inform us. had we assumed we were to be used, and then not then the club would of turned away business which it need not have done.
The league always used to give atleast 17 days notice before comps, but over the last few seasons its been getting less and less. Yes it can be fine for the players, but not giving notice to the venues is not right.

Matt i think i speak for all of us on the forum (correct me if im wrong people) when i say, shut up!! ; ) ; )
as deano and monkey said you knew the dates you just needed the venue. If you want to come back onto the committee as competitions secretary as you think you can improve what i already think is a very efficient way of doing things, then feel free to put your name forward.

Yes I have sat on a committee and also been captain of a pool team arranging the competitions (I wouldn't of forgot you Ian ;D) When filling in the sheets I always made sure that the venue I was captain for new the dates and that there could be a chance that they were used as a venue. As Alexander says "simples"

This season and in recent seasons, we receive the entries on a Tuesday at CSC, the final deadline is the end of that week. We do the draw within 2 days of the final deadline and then the draws are posted by letter to the venues to arrive by the Thursday (2 days later). I believe the letters are addressed to the venue for the attention of the captain of the pool team. In some cases, the captain does not inform the landlord, but we do the best we can. In terms of not posting the competition draws online, I apologise for any delays; it is up to me to take time to type them up on the forum. I have attempted to ensure they are up online with a week to a week and a half to spare for the competitions. I will attempt to get all other draws online over this long weekend. In terms of informing landlords, whether they are online or not, it still comes down to the captain's information the landlords. We've had many complaints in recent years that landlords and even captains don't use computers and can't be bothered with the forum or website, so posting letters is the priority. I hope this helps.

I was going to leave this but as usual matt you have made it very difficult for me to do so Let’s follow your argument through hopefully to your satisfaction The relevance of “people going away in the summer” could do with being explained. Knowing the draws in advance does not change that surely. The date is the same as was provided in more than enough time. Knowing who else is at you venue also does not determine whether people get there or not in a positive way. If anything it reduces attendance if people have a difficult draw. I infer from this comment that you/your players wanted to know the draw so that they could withdraw? Are you complaining on behalf of the venue or the players? Your complaint seems to have morphed from one to the other Did your venue turn away any business based on “not knowing” if they were holding a competition or not? They could have contacted the committee to find out, but didn’t. Exactly what functions could not be accommodated by the singles being played anyway? As ‘orrible has no eloquently argued only a handful of people attend these events? What arrangements need to be made by a venue in order to hold such a competition? Is a committee meeting necessary to arrange this? I mean come on, seriously….!!! Assuming the draws arrived on the 18th May (or there abouts) that gave the venue/committee 9/10 days to organise opening the table on free play. Congratulations on achieving that Where has this utterly random quotation of 17 days come from? For those that are not aware Matt used to be on the committee. Random made up quotes do not hold any more water based on this I am afraid, so stop it. I am going to take a shot in the dark here and based on the wording of your post to Deano guess that you are now on the committee at your venue, hence you clear frustration at this horrific miscarriage of justice? Draws never used to be posted to the teams – they are now. Players are informed of where they play. We cannot hold everyone’s hand through what is a very simple competition. At least ‘orrible agrees with you. Make of that what you will

Yet again Stephen, you make too many assumptions about things you know little about.
Competitons always used to start later into a season rather than 4 weeks in. Comp entries were always early and this allowed a longer time period to sort things out and issue notice. you used to always get 2½ - 3weeks notice of comps with them being posted on forum and emailed to captains.
I can assure you our landlord did inform our venue the day the letter arrived, by which time we only had 9 days notice (if you think it should have been more blame royal mail).
We are a socail club not a pub, and therefore have social functions all the time put on for members. This means if something is booked up and our function hall has been let we have little place to go. We had to try and make last minute arrangements to completely move the pool table and find out how we could accomodate everything without turning something away last minute, which i'm sure you would agree would annoy anyone being told last minute something had been canceled. This therefore had to go through the committee to make decisions on what would be the best solution, or if something needed to be canceled (would prob have been the pool).
I understand what its like on the committee, but you guys set the dates, surely you should consider that there are certain venues that need to know at the minimum. There are 5 free weeks of Sundays with nothing pool related on from the end of June and through July, so if you need more time to get things organised then why were the comps started so early? The earliest of the 2nd rounds of the comps isn't until August so starting the comps 2 weeks later really wouldn't have been an issue and would have given far more time to organise.
Maybe i am being a little picky, but you have no idea how much of an issue this caused us. You try to encourage venues to take part in being used for comps, then why do you not make things easier for them when they do?

I forgot to add, we only have 2 drivers in our team as we have several young players. I know other teams have young players too so releasing the draws earlier helps them for trying to make arrangements for a lift. If they can't get a lift, they won't turn up.
For this reason alone we have had less enter the singles from our team this season.

I agree that the singles takes place far too early in the season.
Nice to see we had list of runners for the Open :-)

You know full well thats not how it would have been, your simply just being petty and childish.
Why is it that the 'new' committee refuse to admit when things could have been done diff? its always the fault of others and never actions of the CAPL committee.
Atleast Steve was honest enough to say that he needed to find time to post things, sure that alone suggests you could have allowed yourselves more time.... which was available with using the right dates.
I can see my point is simply going to be overlooked and ignored.... as normal. Just a shame really that some ppl have to retort to childish behaviour when constructied critisim is given.

Matt your talking Betty swollocks, you know the date, you choose to be considered as a venue so therefore let the committee of venue know, if they then choose to hire out or arrange something else then it's your responsibility to inform the capl committee to not use you as a venue
