CAPL Handicapped Singles - Start Times

Hi all,

Below are the start times for the handicapped singles. Handicaps will be posted later in the day.

CSC will open at 9.30am so it is possible to get a brief practice in before hand. Draws will be performed at 10.15am and 12.00pm for each side of the draw; attempt to be there 15 minutes ahead of your start time to avoid disappointment. If you are running late, contact Mark Golden directly (his phone number is on the committee page of the main www.cambridgeareapoolleague.co.uk website). If you make an effort to let the organisers know that you may arrive late then every effort will be made to accommodate you without slowing up the competition for everyone else. If you don't tell us and arrive late then you risk being left out of the draw.

If you have not paid or made arrangements to pay me prior to the day, you will need to arrive at 10am to register and may be drawn into either the 10.15am start time or the 12pm start time.

Remember: A strong performance in the illustrious CAPL Handicapped Singles may cement your place in Cambridge pool folklore as being pretty good with a stick

Hi all, this is the same as last year with handicaps determined by the gap between the "handicaps" given. This is as follows:

Each player is on a handicap of 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4:

If two people on the same handicap, they play a straight race to 5.

If there is a difference of +1. i.e. Stel on 0 plays Steve McCann on +1, we still play a first to 5, however, Steve gets a 1 start.

If the difference is +2, the race increases to 6 with the more handicapped player beginning on scratch, and the other on +2.

For a difference of 3, the race is to 7 with the "weaker" player beginning 3-0 up, and for a difference of 4, the race is 8 and the "weaker" player begins 4-0 up.

A record 92 players turned up. This led to a very long day. Paul Stelmaszuk beat Dave Coombes in the Final. Sam Moralee beat Michael Shipton in the Final of the plate. Full results will be posted tomorrow night.

Apologies to all those that had to wait for so long yesterday. The record entry made it difficult and hopefully we will learn from this for next time. I will post full results, prize breakdown etc tonight. Also congratulations to Paul for winning. He had to win 8 frames in most matches and was a 10am starter so had a very long day.

i dont think an apology is necessary

92 players on the day, that is a record in the time i have been playing here. Absolutely fantastic!

And to be honest i didnt hear too many complaints on the day (apart from one silly little person). Most people are understanding and realise that if you enter a competition like this there will be times when you have to wait purely due to numbers despite the excellent facilities provided by CSC. We just dont have enough tables to accomodate what is undoubtedly STILL a growing sport in cambridgeshire.

yesterday was not only a credit to the way this competition has been resurrected but also the way it is now run

most importantly it is a credit to the players in the CAPL who turned out in their masses yesterday and proved that this league is as strong as ever - and getting better

well done Monkey and Jamie for running it all day - and staying off the drink!! more than i could ever do!!

and yet again well done to stel - the handicaps just arent big enough to keep him down!!

Congratulations to all those involved in running the tournament on the day! From experience it is a tough ask to keep the competition moving and to keep the players updated regularly on when they will next play, so it must have been frantic with 92 players on the day

I have only heard good things about the day, and Stel has shown that there is noone in the league currently who can match his fight when it comes to consistently chasing down opponents in this handicap competition.

I look forward to seeing the results and seeing who took the biggest scalps!

Even though i didnt play, i thoroughly enjoyed the day, excellently organised and the tables kept in good condition throughout

think the organisers should give themselves a pat on the back and treat themselves to a beer!!

Stel is magic with a cue, although he did survive some miniture scares along the way, the handicaps looked about right to me

next time its on, i wouldnt mind taking part, i get a +4 start do i?
