CAPL Open - 26th Nov - Start Times

The CAPL Open will take place on Saturday 26th November. The field will be split into two draws, one starting at 10.15am and the other at 12.00pm.

You can still enter on the day for £5 but must arrive by 10:00 at the latest. We cannot hold up the tournament waiting for stragglers.

All players must register with the top table in advance of their start time, if you are running late for reasons outside of your immediate control then call me (see www.cambridgeareapoolleague.co.uk/committee.asp for my phone number).

If you think there is a chance that you will be late then feel free to text me (making clear who it is) on the morning to confirm you will be attending and you will be put in the draw.

Those entering on the day with be randomly put in either the 10.15 start or the 12:00 start, and therefore may be waiting for a couple of hours to play.

If you have not yet entered, but wish to do so, I can't give you a start time until I receive your £5 entry fee.

Don't get excited Garry! There has been no drop in the level of enthusiasm for this comp, merely a drop in the number of people who attended the comp entry night at CSC. Time to move that one to a Thursday perhaps!

It'll be fine , besides we usually get 60-70... and we're already in the ball park of 50 so it shouldn't be too difficult. As long as everyone who wishes to arrive and enter on the day arrives at 10am!!!

He means it died because the top players agree to split the winnings at the semi final stages and play final another day because they can't be bothered or have football to watch or something.

According to recent history, the last 3 tournaments have had 55, 60 and 56 players respectively... I wouldn't say it is a death in comparison to the 70 runners days of old.

the most i can remember was 110 but then it took so long on the day the numbers dropped off the following season's,

Click each event and count them up! Or, just look at the round and subtract the byes

It'd be nice to have similar records for the singles competition, but most venues don't bother reporting back

61, 75 and 54 for the most recent 3 handicapped singles... as you can see both comps tend to get about 64 entries... this is higher or lower depending on the time of year.

For example, I wouldn't be surprised if the Open had less this season as it has fallen towards the end of a month and anyone who is waiting to get paid at the end of the month may not fancy a day out drinking/eating and playing pool.

At a guess the handicapped singles would get more entries as it looks like the better value competition but the Open has more prestige (it's the CAPL's premiere one-day singles pool competition, don't ya know!) so may get a little more interest for that reason.
