Dear all, Games are to take place on Sunday July 13th with the winner to text me directly (see www.cambridgeareapoolleague.co.uk website in contact section). Stewards are in bold and are to be the main point of contact with me in the event of any issues. Any prelim matches and qtrs will be best of 3 and semi and venue finals will be best of 5. Note for Stewards: Please be responsible for the draw on the night and for noting down all scores for matches played. If you are not going to be able to make it to the venue please let me know asap. Remember that a timer should be used for all games, it is the responsibility of all entrants at the venue to assist with that when not playing. Any queries regarding matches where a stopwatch hasn't been used will be ignored. If any entrants are not there for the alloted start time, and haven't called ahead first, please do the draw without them. Discretion advised, of course. The competition will start at 8pm with participants aiming to arrive between 7.30pm and 7.45pm to allow the steward to perform the draw at 8pm for a prompt start. Captains CupCaldecote

Any interest in playing this earlier in the day? Apparently some organisers in Brazil forgot to check with CAPL before arranging their matches...
Maybe 6pm? Only by mutual consent of each venue, of course.

Only by mutual consent of each venue, of course. Good thinking - I can see very few turning up. Any chance of the committee postponing it and finding a date later in the season? I don't think some of the venues will want the matches on if they have a crowd in to watch the World cup final.

Yo. The Fulbourn and Tev Con venues are now playing next Sunday 20th July. Caldecote will remain this Sunday. Waiting to hear from Dave before we can make a decision on Mickey's.

I'm happy with the move to 20th - well done Monkey Would have been a better event if fewer venues with more at each, I think. Dave

Yo. Mickey Flynn's venue now also postponed until 20th. May have to change venue as not sure if Mickey's is open.

WT's (In place of Mickeys) Dave K 0 v 3 Stel Only me and Stel. More one sided than Brazil V Germany. 1st frame: Stel B&D's 2nd frame: I dry break, Stel jaws a yellow, I pot it in the corner and manage to screw white back into middle bag - Stel clears. 3rd frame: Stel B&D's All over in 10 mins. I am sure there is a rule somewhere against being as good as Stel??? If not can we propose one at the AGM?

its just as well this was moved away from the world cup final night (or at least three of the venues were!) or there may have been a poor turn out
5 players in two venues?! a shame that given 2 opportunities to turn up many didnt
some never had that luxury

I think that the Captains cup could do with a rethink as to its format.
I say this, as although I got a certain amount of masochistic pleasure from watching Stel play against me, I would guess the reason for a severe lack of entrants from the lower divisions is because they feel they have little chance against the big boys.
One option would be to simply handicap the competition and otherwise leave it as it is.
Another would be to make it a divisional competition - I would suggest on the Thursday before the start of the season, the div sec holds the captains meeting (5 mins) which is then followed by the captains playing each other in the new Captains cup.
Later in the season, the finals between the divisional winners could be held, which would be handicapped.
Any views welcome.

And Dave the lowest captain in the cup was a div 8 captain and he turned up everyone else is no lower than div 2 so I don't think it is through fear.

i think a great way is all division captains play each other and then the final captains play each other on finals week you would get more people to play and that is what everybody wants

It affects the vast minority. I'll happily send the captain to CSC for an extra game next season

no it does not mean every div plays at csc each div has a diffrent venue in there own div and that would be up to committe to sort out i just think more captains would get involved if captain from each division played each other

Yo. I like the idea of a divisional captains cup. It would be nice from a committee point of view to have it on captains meeting night. Might encourage captains to turn up to the meeting and make it more informal and enjoyable. Not sure you would have time to get a full comp involving ten people competed. How about similar to the singles league. You draw an opponent within your division and have a deadline by which to play. You then have rounds to play to end up with a divisional winner. Entry could be made and paid for at the captains meeting and the draw done then. I don't normally advocate this sort of thing as it leads to problems with matches not being played but it may work with captains as they are more responsible.
